What is a sundial?
A sundial is a clock which operates in the sun. The sun shines on a shadowcaster and the shadow indicates the time. More is possible however, the shadow can also indicate the start of the seasons or a specific date like an anniversary. Do not hesitate to contact Analemma to discuss al the options.
How do I have to orient a horizontal sundial?
Place the sundial horizontal in the sun and turn it until the shadowcaster points north. It it also possible to turn the sundial until it indicates the right time. You will see that also in the latter case, the shadowcaster points to the north. Note that one has to take the difference between clock time and local solar time in to account. How this is done is explained in the menu on the left of this page (see "manuals").
I have bought a wall mounted sundial in the local garden shop, how do I mount this sundial?
A wall mounted sundial, which indicates the right time, has to be made for the wall it is mounted on. So it is not possible to buy a wall mounted sundial of the shelf in a shop and read the right time with it.
How does Analemma design a sundial, customized to my garden wall?
If we deliver a sundial, we first sent you a very easy to use measurement board. If you place this board on the wall of your choice, you are able to mark some shadows of the sun on it. Afterwords, you sent the board back to us and this will provide us with the needed information to provide you a proper sundial. After the sundial is delivered, you will see that it indicates the right time.

Does a brass sundial needs to be maintained?
The brass of the sundial will darken. It does not need to be maintained, however, if you want to restore the original lighter color, you can use the maintenance set. You will find it via the "accessoires" menu on the left of this page.
I am busy with a school project about time reading and sundials, can Analemma help me?
Yes, you will find several paper cut-outs which you can use for free (non commercial use) in the menu "paper cut-outs". Lot of information is available via the menu "manuals". Bear in mind that most of the cut-outs are available in Dutch and are made for Utrecht in the Netherlands.
